Mt. Rainier from the summit of Tatoosh Peak (6310’)

Tatoosh Peak (6310')

June 23, 2026 by Willis Wall

Tatoosh Peak is classified as a hike because there is a trail all the way to the summit. This is a peak on the Mountaineers 100 Peaks in Mt. Rainier National Park list, and brings my total to 77. To access the trailhead, one must negotiate FS 5270, which is in fairly good condition but does have a gully section in the road that would be problematic for a lower slung vehicle, along with some pretty deep potholes. I touched bottom in my vehicle with 8" of clearance, but on the return managed a better route. This hike occurred on the solstice, June 21st, 2026 with absolutely beautiful weather. I joined Michelle (fellow peak bagger) for this hike. Filmed in 4k, run time 11 minutes.
