The Bearheads
Reference the blog write up here. Summit Lake and the Bearhead mountains used to be easily accessible by driving toward the Mt. Rainier Carbon River entrance, bearing left over the bridge and driving to the trailhead. Then it was just a few miles to Summit Lake, a popular place for families, and also access the trail that led to the top of Bearhead Mountain. Not so anymore due to the closure of the Fairfax bridge. Summit Lake and the Bearheads are either a long trek in from Longmire or Sunrise, or one can drive some FS roads and climb Rooster Comb Ridge for Summit Lake. The roads and the ridge are not easy on your vehicle or your knees, but that’s how John, Michelle and I tackled these peaks. The first part of the video “showcases” the road and the ridge, then the actual summits. Filmed in 4K, run time 35 minutes.
