Wonderland Trail 3 Day Backpack (HD)
Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 7:52PM
In 2009 I was filming a podcast for Gossamer Gear and in the process chronicled my trip. I was not in the best of shape during this sojourn and tried to capture both the glory and the pain. Supplemented with additional HD footage, this series is available for each day. Authored as Quicktime movies (.mov), these 720p HD files are less than 1GB each for the download. Along with views taken on the trail (incl. scenes from 2008 thru-hike), most of this series is me talking to the camera under locomotion. Includes on screen pop up map and elevation profile for orientation.

Day 1 (.mov, file size 956MB, runtime 24:52)
Starting at Longmire and traveling clockwise I end the day at Golden Lakes. Look inside Indian Henry's ranger cabin. Back scratching bear. Emerald Ridge in bloom. ONLY $1.99!
Day 2 (.mov, file size 917MB, runtime 22:48)
Proceeding cw from Golden Lakes I barely limp into Sunrise late in the evening. Philosophy, tips, higher highs and lower lows. ONLY $1.99!
Day 3 (.mov, file size 613MB, runtime 16:26)
Both the best and the worst day, digging so deep in the end to finish that I wonder how I made it to Longmire at 2:25 AM. Less gab, more views. Critters (munching marmot, cackling mountain chicken, bear, dainty doe), sounds of the trail provide the music. ONLY $1.99!

RELATED VIDEOS and LINKS: If you want further insight into this series, you can read the article I did for my blog titled Midlife Grit Crisis: Wonderland Trail in 3 Days. I wrote this journal the following day of the trip while all the pain and elation was still fresh in my mind and body.
I edited snippets of this video into a short film that was a finalist in the 2009 Kendal Mountain Film Festival. This 5 minute film covers the entire trip from my footage and is extremely fast paced. You're a Wimp! Lighten up your load is the podcast I did for Gossamer Gear. This 10 minute piece uses the same style, I wanted to narrate the podcast while underway on the Wonderland, recording sections when I had cool backgrounds.
