My Wonderland

13 year-old daughter takes in a vistaMy Wonderland is a film about my then 13-yearold daughter in her quest to hike Mt. Rainier's 93 mile wonderland trail in 5 days. Lugging a camera while accompanying her on over 140 miles of hiking in 2008, she maintained a remarkably upbeat attitude in spite of the difficulties of the trail. 16 hour days, mosquitoes, bad weather and sodden feet did not discourage her and contrasted the glorious days of good weather and the gifts that come when you spend time in the outdoors; sunsets when hiking above 7000 feet and wildlife like bear, coyote and mountain chicken. A great way to spend time between two generations. This short (16:50) film emphasized the importance of exposing our kids to wilderness and encourage a sense of ownership of wild places. My Wonderland was a finalist in the 2009 Kendal Mountain Film Festival and toured primary schools in the UK with other films about kids and the outdoors.
